FUTURE TRAILS
North branch of the Kowai River
There is strong demand from Amberley residents to have the current track in the domain extended to the old sawmill on Douglas Rd to the north and to Grays Rd to the south. These extensions will provide neat loop rides/walks for locals.
These proposed trails pass through private land which means the the Trust will have to get permissions and form partnerships with the landowners before the trails can be formed. (shown on attached maps)
Amberley Area
The Trust is focused on having a dedicated bike/walk trail from Amberley township to the beach settlement via Beach Road. This trail is at the planning stage, with trustees working with the Hurunui District Council and other stakeholders and potential funders to ensure a start is made in the 2025/26 summer.
Waipara River Trails.
The trustees of the Trust have identified 3 potential trails:
A mtb trail from the Double Corner road bridge downstream to the sea on the true right of the river.
A trail from the Boneline vineyard to Stringers Bridge. This will provide a nice loop ride when riding from Amberley over Mound road and back around Ram Paddock road.
The Trustees also see value in linking Waipara, the Waipara Valley Vineyard Trail with the George’s Road vineyards via Stringers Bridge then onto Amberley. Such a ride would provide a great cycle ride for local and visitors to the region.
As with the the Kowai River tracks the Waipara river trails require collaboration and partnering with landowners and other stakeholders to turn plans into actual trails.
The trustees are always looking for feedback or support when it comes to future trail projects. Please contact us to discuss.
